Morsi rejects army’s 48-hour ultimatum as more ministers resign
July 3, 2013
Egyptians woke today to a country plunged into yet further political chaos and confusion after President Morsi rejected an army ultimatum to force a resolution between him and his opponents.
Pressure is mounting on Mr Morsi after a flood of Cabinet resignations yesterday and news today that both the presidential and Cabinet spokesmen had also quit.
In a statement released late last night the President revealed that he had not been consulted about the army’s televised communiqué, which warned of military intervention if he failed to satisfy the public’s demands within 48 hours.
