Egyptian journalist clashes with Muslim cleric over hijab
May 26, 2013
A YouTube video showing an Egyptian television presenter storming out of an interview with a Muslim cleric after a heated argument during which she tore off her hijab, has become an international hit.
Shot in April and broadcast on Egypt’s Al-Nahar TV channel, more than 400,000 people have watched the clip after it was posted online with English subtitles earlier this month.
The footage shows an off-air discussion between journalist Riham Said and cleric Yousuf Badri, about his demand she wear the hijab during filming, despite having no problem with her bare head when they weren’t on camera.
“Do we have to go through this charade just to have the interview?” she asked.
