The brother of al-Qaeda’s leader has claimed that the Government of Egypt is illegitimate and that he would seek to overthrow the democratic system if he had the resources.

Mohammed al-Zawahiri said: “President Morsi is a civil President in a civil order. We are asking for a religious President for a religious order.”

Mr al-Zawahiri is the younger brother of Ayman al-Zawahiri, who took over al-Qaeda’s leadership after Osama bin Laden was killed by US troops in 2011.
